ART 301 Assignment 4

1. Corsair

2. Create Nightclub

3. Lynda

What I like about these emails is that they are simple and straight to the point. The fact that they don't have too many words and large colorful images allow me to skim the letter and absorb the content quickly.

ART 301 Assignment 2

1) Brochure
Paramount Studios www.paramount.com

The website for Paramount allows people to read up on what movies they're working on, which movies are already out, information about the company and even how to be apart of it through its own job portal or internship opportunities. The homepage has a nice display of their latest releases. The nav bar at the top leads to more information about the studio and even a site to purchase merchandise.

2) eCommerce
Chegg www.chegg.com

Chegg is a textbook rental website. This website follows what I believe is the current trend of websites. The design is flat and the homepage is long which allows a lot of information to be presented on a single page. The images and sections extend to the edges of the browser so there's always something to look at, there isn't much empty space. A cool thing about it is that the pictures behind the text disappear into the next section as you scroll down the page.

3) Community Social
Reddit www.reddit.com

Reddit is a website for users to post links to images, personal thoughts/opinions, or other websites which users can then discuss about with each other. The layout is pretty basic and not design heavy however it is a very popular website that thousands of people visit each day.

4) Reference/Instruction
Craigslist www.craigslist.com

Craigslist is a website for people to post things for sale, job opportunities, apartments for rent, and several other items or services that other people may be looking for. The design is also basic yet thousands of people use it daily to look for specific things they want. I think what makes it so successful is its easy to navigate homepage. All subjects are grouped into larger sections which allows users to find what they're looking for quicker.

5.) Web Application
Studyblue www.studyblue.com

Studyblue is a study tool for students to make online flashcards, tests/quizzes and review sheets. The homepage also has the contemporary design I used to describe Chegg. Once logged in the website is very easy to navigate, The design is easy on the eyes with the use of static nav bars and a side menu that expands when you hover over it.

6) Micro site
Interstellar Official Webpage www.interstellarmovie.net

The website for the film Interstellar is very interactive. There's a large slideshow on the homepage, small games, wallpapers for downloads and more.

7) App
USA Today (available for iOS)

I use this app daily to read about current events.  What I like are the sections where you can find what type of news you are looking for like world news, tech news, sports news etc. It makes it easy to navigate the app. The text is easy to read and there's always a photo or video to accompany the article.

The photo you see above is the result of many days of reading, researching, headache. It is the first PC I've ever built. It was only about three weeks ago that I began to take interest in building a computer. At first the idea seemed daunting as I knew very little of computer parts and even less about what each did. Yet after reading many articles on building computers and watching several Youtube videos on how to build them I felt confident enough to start my own PC build journey. Two websites I found myself going back to repeatedly during the process were pcpartpicker.com and http://www.tomshardware.com/. The former allows you to select each part needed to build a PC, minimum 8 needed, and lets you know how they all work with each other by giving you several benchmark test results. It also includes the cheapest available price online for each part comparing sites like Newegg and Amazon and a handy chart on each parts' price fluctuation. The market for computer parts is constantly changing so buying computer parts at the lowest price is a tough thing to do. Tom's Hardware is a website dedicated to everything PC. It contains several articles on the lastest graphics cards, CPUs and other computer components letting you know the pros and cons of each part. What was most useful to me on this website were the reports on the latest graphics cards and CPUs to date letting you know which GPU and CPU is the best for the money. Building a PC is not a hard thing to do but it does take much time and dedication to make it to the end. However, the first time you power up a PC you've built yourself is a very satisfying feeling. In this day when almost every household has a computer it doesn't hurt to get yourself familiarized with its inner workings to save yourself headache in the long run with repairs and upgrades.
